We are seeking an experienced Senior Scala Engineer to join an established, high-profile digital transformation programme. You will work in a multidisciplinary Agile environment, helping to design, develop and maintain large-scale digital services used by millions of people across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Scala Engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges, contributing to technical decisions and supporting the development of other engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Scala.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams.
- Partner with architects, DevOps engineers, QA specialists and product teams to deliver robust, high-quality solutions.
- Support and optimise live digital services, including troubleshooting and incident resolution.
- Produce clean, maintainable and thoroughly tested code.
- Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews and architectural decisions.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership across the engineering team.
- Mentor junior developers, championing engineering best practices and consistent coding standards.
- Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the wider delivery team.
- Influence technical approaches and help drive successful delivery outcomes.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong commercial experience developing production applications using Scala.
- Proven experience designing, building and maintaining backend services and APIs.
- Excellent understanding of software engineering principles, clean code and testing practices.
- Experience delivering solutions within Agile environments.
- Background working on complex, large-scale digital platforms.
- Previous experience working within UK Central Government environments.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.
