An exciting opportunity for an experienced Content Designer to play a key role in shaping accessible, user-centred content for complex digital services within a major public sector transformation programme.

We are looking for a skilled Content Designer to join a multidisciplinary Agile Scrum team, supporting a critical discovery phase focused on understanding user needs, reviewing existing content journeys and identifying opportunities to improve the overall digital service experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse complex user needs and translate them into clear, accessible and user-focused content.
  • Review and assess existing content across complex transactional and digital service journeys.
  • Identify content gaps, duplication, inconsistencies and opportunities for improvement or reuse.
  • Collaborate closely with User Researchers to ensure content decisions are informed by evidence and user insights.
  • Work alongside Service Designers and Interaction Designers to create coherent end-to-end user journeys.
  • Create, prototype, test and iterate content throughout the discovery phase.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Architects and Engineering teams to understand technical constraints and dependencies.
  • Apply content design best practices, accessibility standards and plain English principles.
  • Contribute content expertise, findings and recommendations to discovery outputs and future delivery options.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as a Content Designer within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
  • Strong background designing content for complex digital services or large-scale transformation programmes.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting discovery phases and shaping content strategies for future delivery.
  • Experience designing user-centred content across complex transactional journeys.
  • Excellent understanding of accessibility and inclusive content design.
  • Experience using user research, usability testing and evidence to inform and iterate content.
  • Ability to simplify complex information, processes and technical concepts into clear, engaging content.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary digital teams.
  • Strong collaboration skills, particularly when working with User Researchers, Service Designers and Interaction Designers.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience working on government or public sector digital transformation programmes.
  • Familiarity with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and content design principles.
  • Experience designing content for complex, regulated or highly integrated digital services.
  • Understanding of WCAG accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience supporting services involving multiple user groups, intermediaries or complex end-to-end journeys.
